Having ridden from the UK to South Africa along the West coast, I've joined Evan and Jaakko in sharing an airbnb flat for 4 weeks. A great opportunity to relax, do some maintenance and repairs on the motorcycle, and have some fun before embarking upon riding the East coast of Africa. Here's some of the highlights, which have been, as they say in South Africa, lekker!
We're staying in Bloubergstrand and we're spoilt for choice with bars and pubs. From a biker bar and old English pub to a pool bar and surfer bar. We've tried most of them!
The quality of steaks is really good down here. The flat has a brai, and I've discovered the porterhouse steaks from supermarket around the corner are phenomenal! Incredibly good meat for a favourable price.
Alcohol here seems to give brutal hangovers. Might just be my age! We used Pushkin vodka, which is made in South Africa, in White Russians whilst watching The Big Lebowski. Good fun but it left me in bed all of the following day. Also, a night of beers in the CBD had the same effect but with less severity.
Woodstock Moto Co held an event to test ride Husqvarna 401 and two 701s. On a cold Saturday morning, I rode the VITPILEN 401, VITPILEN 701, and SVARTPILEN 701. The engines were very smooth and so much more powerful than my CRF250L. Great fun to ride! We rode up Signal Hill and stopped to take a photo.
I'll chat more about Cape Mountain venture and motorcycle maintenance in future posts.
